Day 7 Sunday May 12: Santa Fe NM – Durango CO

This travel day took us from the high New Mexico Desert to the snow capped Rocky Mountains of Southern Colorado.

We did have a delightful Mother’s Day lunch at the Cortez NM Café which specializes in more of the Southwest New Mexican cuisine. They also gave each mother a flower to celebrate the day!

We also were introduced to Durango, another new place for both of us. The Animas River runs through the center of town. Its official name is Rio de las Animas Perdidas: The River of Lost Souls!

We settled into our campsite at United Campground and met a delightful couple, Chuck and Joan from Australia. They bought a used Class A Motor Home several years ago plus an inexpensive car to tow; they come over to the states every year for six months and tour different areas.

Tom was really at home here as the owner collects old tractors, specifically this McCormack Deering W30 @ 1927, just like the one on his grandfather's farm in South Lyons, MI. He spent many happy summers there as a child.
